Sometimes we struggle. It's a fact of life. We struggle at work, with our families and in our marriages. Why does it have to be so hard? Why can't things come easy?
Consider the butterfly if you will. One day a little boy found a cocoon with a butterfly struggling to emerge. It was taking a long time to come out into the world. The little boy, feeling sorry for it, decided he would help it along its way. He gently pulled back the cocoon to expose the butterfly. As it came out of the cocoon, it stumbled around, weak and unable to fly. In a few minutes, it had died.
What the little boy did not understand was the butterfly needed the struggle. As it pushes it's way through the cocoon, the life's blood gets pushed into it's wings to strengthen them. Up until this point in time, the wings were compressed into the body of the butterfly.
You see, what he didn't realize was the struggle was essential to the butterfly. He needed it to strengthen his wings so he could fly. Without the struggle that the obstacle of the cocoon created, he couldn't fly.
So what would happen if we never had to struggle? We would never be strong enough to fly. When you realize this, you can say, as Paul said in Romans, “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”
Romans 5:3-4 NIV
God is a good, good Father
